Pateman & Sons Dumpster Rentals Pittsfield runs out of a yard on 260 Columbus Ave, a short run from downtown Pittsfield at the confluence of the Housatonic River's east and west branches. We started after seeing the same pattern too often — missed drop-offs, confusing pricing, or poor communication right when someone needed help the most. So we do the opposite. One number that covers the job. A delivery window we actually hit. A person on the phone rather than a form on a website.
Pittsfield sits in a valley between the Berkshire Hills and the Taconic Range, in Berkshire County — real snow-belt territory, with roughly 73 inches of snow a year and the kind of nor'easter that brings down tree limbs and buries a driveway overnight. That's a different set of realities than a warm-climate market, and it's why our process accounts for a container that might sit through slush, ice, or a fresh six inches before pickup, not just clear pavement. Beyond Pittsfield itself — the one city in our service area — our other 10 communities are genuine Massachusetts towns, each with its own elected Select Board: Lanesborough, Dalton, Washington, Lenox (home to Tanglewood, the Boston Symphony's summer stage), Richmond, Hancock, Hinsdale, Cheshire, Adams and Stockbridge. Massachusetts abolished Berkshire County's county government decades ago, so there's no county permits office standing behind any of them — every real permit question routes to a city or town's own office, and we'll tell you honestly which one applies before the truck rolls.
Whatever you are clearing — nor'easter storm debris, an estate cleanout, a new-construction site or a re-roofing job — the container exists for it. Call (413) 553-1676 and describe it in a sentence.

Twelve service lines out of one yard. Same containers, same flat pricing — what changes is how the load gets sized and what has to stay out of it.

How it works
Most bookings take under four minutes.
One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the box needs to sit and when you need it, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No forms, no waiting on an email.
You get one number covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so.
The driver walks the spot with you and sets the container square on the driveway, lot or jobsite. If the surface needs protection we will say so before we set it down.
Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.
Clean metal, concrete and yard debris get routed for recovery rather than landfilled where we can. You get your driveway or lot back the way you left it.
Local knowledge
There is a difference between covering an area and knowing it. We know which Pittsfield side streets run tight in a February snowbank, which surrounding town still requires a call to its own Select Board office before a container sits on a public way, and how much room a shared driveway out toward Richmond or Hancock actually gives us.
Our service area page lists every community we cover, and each has its own page covering access, permits and the local rules we run into — Pittsfield under its own city Occupy Right-of-Way process, and the other 10 towns each under their own Select Board and DPW, since Berkshire County itself has no county permits office to fall back on.

Why us
The phone rings at our yard on 260 Columbus Ave, a short run from downtown Pittsfield. Whoever picks up knows the difference between a tight Pittsfield side street and a wide-open lot out toward Dalton.
Delivery, the rental period, pickup, fuel, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance in a single number. If your load looks like it will go over, we say so before the truck leaves the yard.
Call early and most orders in Pittsfield go out the same day. Dalton, Lenox and the closer towns are usually same- or next-day; farther towns like Stockbridge are more often next-day — honestly, and in advance.
Boards go under the rails on every driveway as standard, and the driver will tell you before delivery if a narrow street, a shared driveway, or a busy commercial site needs a different approach.
Weight fills a container long before volume does. If a 10 yard is the honest answer for your concrete load, that is what we will quote you.
Pittsfield sits in a real New England snow belt — about 73 inches a year on average, with nor'easters and heavy wet snow that bring down limbs. We size jobs for both storm-debris cleanup after a bad storm and the spring cleanout that follows once the snow clears.

Fully insured for general liability and commercial auto. A certificate of insurance goes to your property manager, general contractor or builder on request, usually the same day.
Pateman & Sons Dumpster Rentals is locally owned and still runs out of one yard. The number on this page reaches the Pittsfield yard, not an answering service in another state.
Close to the yard in Pittsfield and across Lanesborough, Dalton, Lenox, Richmond, Hancock and the other real Berkshire County towns on our list. We tell you honestly which runs are same-day and which are next-day before you book, not after.
Clean metal, concrete and yard debris get routed for recovery rather than buried wherever the local facilities allow it — good practice, and required for several material categories under Massachusetts's own statewide waste disposal bans.

Service area
We run roll-off containers out of our Columbus Ave yard to all eleven communities we cover — Pittsfield itself, plus the real Berkshire County towns of Lanesborough, Dalton, Washington, Lenox, Richmond, Hancock, Hinsdale, Cheshire, Adams and Stockbridge, each its own full town with its own elected Select Board. Pittsfield and the closer towns are usually same-day; farther towns are typically same- or next-day. If your address is not listed, call anyway. We likely still get there.
Answers
Price depends on the container size, how heavy the material is, how long you keep it and how far the delivery address is from our yard — every job is genuinely different, so we don't publish a rate card. What we do instead is quote flat, out loud, on the phone: one number covering delivery, the rental period, pickup and disposal, before the truck ever leaves Columbus Ave. Call and describe the job for a firm price on that call.
Near the yard on 260 Columbus Ave, a morning call is often a same-day delivery. Pittsfield itself and close neighbors like Lanesborough and Dalton are usually same-day; Lenox, Richmond, Hancock, Hinsdale and Cheshire typically run same- or next-day; farther towns like Stockbridge and Adams more often run next-day rather than same-day. Jobsite swap-outs get priority over new deliveries, because a full container stops a crew working.
On your own driveway or private property, a permit typically is not required. Placing a container in the street or any public right-of-way within Pittsfield itself requires an Occupy Right-of-Way permit through the City's Public Works / Engineering Division, 70 Allen Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201, (413) 449-5600, applied for online through the City's PermitEyes portal. Massachusetts has no county government left in Berkshire County to fall back on, so for our 10 surrounding towns — Lanesborough, Dalton, Washington, Lenox, Richmond, Hancock, Hinsdale, Cheshire, Adams and Stockbridge — the right call is that town's own Select Board office or DPW, not a county desk. We'll help you figure out who to call before we deliver.
Paint, solvents, oils, propane tanks, asbestos and medical waste are never allowed in a roll-off. On top of that, MassDEP's statewide waste disposal bans keep a long list of specific materials out of regular trash disposal altogether — asphalt, brick and concrete; metals and appliances; glass, metal and plastic containers; recyclable paper and cardboard; leaves and yard waste; whole tires; and, as of a genuinely recent change (November 2022), mattresses and textiles too. Our what-goes-in-a-dumpster guide walks through the full list.
A loaded roll-off is heavy, and boards go under the rails as standard on every placement to spread that weight out. Tell us if the surface is anything other than a standard driveway — a shared driveway, a steep grade, or a spot that's still holding ice or snowmelt after a Berkshires storm — and we'll talk through the right placement before the truck arrives.
Volume and weight are two separate limits, and the material decides which one stops you first. Household clear-outs and construction offcuts run out of space, so size up. Concrete, brick, tile and soil run out of weight with the box barely a third full, so size down and fill it part way. The 20 yard suits most whole-project jobs; the 10 yard is the right answer for anything heavy.
Yes, all eleven communities we cover. Pittsfield is the one city in this service area, with its own mayor-council government and its own Occupy Right-of-Way permit desk. The other 10 — Lanesborough, Dalton, Washington, Lenox, Richmond, Hancock, Hinsdale, Cheshire, Adams and Stockbridge — are each a genuine Massachusetts town with its own elected Select Board, since Berkshire County's own county government was abolished decades ago and never had a permits office to begin with. We tell you honestly which office applies to your address before anything is booked.
Pittsfield doesn't have a hard seasonal shutdown, but it does have a real New England winter — about 73 inches of snow a year on average, with nor'easters and heavy wet snow that bring down limbs and pile up against a house. Storm-debris cleanup picks up after a bad nor'easter, and the spring cleanout rush follows close behind once the snow finally clears. Outside those windows, containers and scheduling are generally easier to line up.
